Transformacion: Dreams of Oaxaca, MAW Collection

October 5th, 2011 - November 8th, 2011
About the Exhibit:

Transformación: Dreams Of Oaxaca is a unique exhibition highlighting contemporary art from the Mexican state of Oaxaca. The prints, sculptures, and paintings of this collection seek to somehow capture the vitality and humanity of the Oaxacan people, and their rich culture of magia and mito. Some of the artists featured such as Fulgencio Lazo and Humberto Batista express themselves through abstraction, recalling the voices of Rufino Tamayo and other Mexican masters. However, other artists such as Leovigildo Martinez and Felipe Morales maintain a more folk or vernacular aesthetic in work. Transformación: Dreams of Oaxaca, as the title suggests, reflects the dreams of the Oaxacan people, but it also explores their fears, joys and hopes in a world that is always uncertain, but also beautiful.
